Tuesday, June 26, 2012 Daily Update

Last November, my sweet cat Tony was diagnosed with cancer. I blogged about it here and made a special birthday request that with the holidays coming up, to carefully consider getting pets and for those who did want one, to go to animal shelters instead. Tony’s time came a short time after that and I shared some special memories of him.

Tony was a Siamese. I got him at the same time as Pina. Shortly after, I got a third Siamese – Sasha.  Pina was with Tony constantly through his last days and she went through a month or so of mourning after. Sasha and Tony had been very close. They’d nap curled up together quite often. She had a very difficult time after Tony was gone. She lost her enthusiasm for food, lost weight rather quickly and became very withdrawn. There was nothing medically wrong other than she was getting older and depression.

I’m still away so I’ve been apart from my kittens at home for 3 months now. I got word a couple weeks ago that Sasha was getting worse and eating even less. I woke up to a message she had passed away in her sleep. I’m sad I didn’t get to spend some time with her before she crossed the rainbow bridge, but I am glad it was peaceful for her and that she’s now reunited with Tony.

Here’s a photo from left to right of Pina, Tony and Sasha.

I head back to Canada in a week and already had a lot to do. With needing to take some time off to mourn, my daily updates may be sporadic until I am settled back at home.

A Request for Animal Lovers

With the July 4th holiday around the corner in the U.S., at the top of everyone’s thoughts are BBQ’s, friends and fireworks.

As much as humans love fireworks, our furry friends don’t take as well to them. The noise and lights can be quite scary.  July 5th is purportedly the busiest day of the year for animal shelters in the U.S. with many dogs getting frightened enough to run away.

Please make sure to keep your own furry friends inside and safe well before fireworks start. If you are at a friends, make sure they do the same.
