So right after I blogged about getting back on track with working out and a healthier lifestyle, I had a major setback. The problem which had plagued me for several months – and I thought was solved – reared its ugly head.  I ended up in ER on a Friday night with severe jaw pain, swelling and a fever.  I saw my dentist the next day and I needed to get a root canal. I got put on antibiotics and had an allergic reaction. Just a mess of a time.

.

For a couple of weeks, I wasn’t able to eat properly, never mind work out. Somehow I let my blog slip by the wayside in the process. I think it was because of my last post about getting things back on track. I just got discouraged. It’s humiliating to go forward publicly, say I’m going to do something and then not follow through.

The good news is – I was able to get things back on track. I had the root canal on Wednesday but a week earlier, I got back to working out and have been sticking to it. I’ve also gotten myself back on track with eating – what I am eating, portion control and making sure I am eating often enough.  I’ve had a couple of days where I’ve not had enough of calories (one being the day I had the root canal and the other today when I slept in – both excusable reasons) but I’m balancing things out.

I had tweeted and added to Facebook updates on how things were going. I guess I needed to take baby steps rather than to start blogging on day 1.

On the offside, because of the root canal and needing to get a crown done in December, my trip to San Diego for the winter has been postponed until the start of the new year. This means even if I had been training for the 5k, I’d not have been able to run it on U.S. Thanksgiving.

The positive of it is that I realized that I need to keep workouts fun and doing things that are going to keep me more involved than preparing for a 5k would have. I need to get my base level of fitness back before I can get back to running. It’s been really tough for me, as someone who used to love running, to be forced to walk because of being out of shape.

I’ll be sharing information about what I am doing exercise-wise and food-wise starting now. But more importantly, I’ll be getting back to blogging here in general.

How do you handle it when you go off track in one area? Do you find it sets you back in others?
