Finding yourself having a rough day? Want to be prepared for a difficult day ahead? I want to share with you my 7 best tips on how to make today a great day. These are things I practice daily and I find it helps keep my mood elevated.
1. Listen to music that empowers you. Find a song to bring you to that “place”
There are a handful of songs that are on my daily playlist. Although I’ll swap out songs from time to time, any song that makes it to this list has been put there because it resonates with me in a positive way. Any of them can have an almost immediate impact on my mood and energy levels.
2. Remember to tell your kids, significant other, pets that you love them and give them a hug
It’s so easy to get caught up in our daily lives that we forget how token important verbal and physical affection are - like saying the words, “I love you,” and giving a kiss or a hug. Not only will it help put us in better spirits, but it will help put those we love in better spirits too.
3. Do something for someone else with no expectation of receiving anything in return
I’ll always been a big proponent of this idea. Mahei Foliaki (Iconic88 on Twitter) is loved by many for continuing to remind his Twitter followers of this almost daily and is responsible for the #RAOK movement in social media.
4. Try to focus a little more each day
How much of your day do you spend multitasking? I’m a huge advocate of focusing on one thing at a time. Yes, I do multitask my fair share but for anything important – and to maximize personal productivity – I try to focus on one thing at a time.
Try to make a conscious effort to spend a little more time on focused activity each day. You’ll discover that you become calmer, more productive and a lot less stressed.
5. Take 5-10 minutes to get a belly laugh
Laughter heals. Unless you are in the midst of a major depressive period, there is likely something you can find that will make you laugh. For me – it is funny animal videos. Seriously. I can re-watch the same videos with kittens playing and they will never fail to make me laugh. Laughter can almost instantly help us shift from a bad place to a great place.
6. Get some physical activity in
Whether it is a workout, a walk, sex – do something that will get your fully body moving. Physical activity can help relieve stress and put us in a much better place.
7. Do it all with a smile
How much of your day do you spend with a genuine smile on your face? Smiling helps keep us in a good place. It can also positively impact others around us. Even when you’re on a phone call and you’re smiling, the other person can hear your smile. It makes such a huge difference!
